Women’s Issue Feature Poem By Dr. Thirupurasundari C J (Dazzle)

Priceless

Breast feeding!
Stressful? Tantrums thrown!
Back pain and cramps?
Body needs to be toned?
Oh! Milk-stained nursing bras,
Expel the feelings, best medicine,
Yoga, lulling music may help.

Prolactin and oxytocin gushing inwards,
Precious liquid in ounces
But love, imponderable!

Gentle touch on my sensitive areas,
Squirming, latching and unlatching,
Oh no! Ant like stinging, the biting,
My sudden sweet spanking,
Mischievous smile follows,
Your mouth stays hollow,
Tummy filled, hiccups, loosening up, drowsy eyes,
Leaving me in surprise,
Innumerable cues, truly fascinating!

We stay glued,
Colostrum- your perfect first food,
Elixir loaded with immunity boosters.
Natural phenomenon, boon to mothers,
No to endometrial and uterine cancers,
Preferably mitigating the risks!

I succumb to my child’s behest,
You dispel my baffling darkness of life.
Myself your first warmth,
Tender as a mother,
Cheerfulness, concern, optimism
Reflecting in my eyes,
Influence your other ties.

Moms worry not,
Safe and harmless,
Pumping and storing milk,
Alternative during transient separations.
Paranoid?
Reflexes thwarted, flow halted,
Emotions, babies can sense,
Smart are they! Be relaxed!

Breasts, a sexual personification?
Not a hallmark for seduction always,
But treasure for the new-born,
Moms bestow with grace and pleasure!

Ah! Lustful noticing eyes,
Why shy away?
Immature and biased find it indecent.
Men folks! Time to realise,
You too were nurtured alike.
If harassing, teasing, drinking is overt,
Breastfeeding is an honour!
